  • Russia objectified the legal grounds on which it suspended the treaty, not spurious reasons.
  • The New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) could abruptly end as deterioration conditions with the US prevail.
  • Washington is resorting to the muddling of facts about the ending of the agreement.

Russian issued a statement justifying the abandonment of the START Treaty that did not go well with Washington. Moscow laid out legal grounds that support its decision to end the nuclear nonproliferation agreement.

Russia Ends START Treaty

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov last Tuesday issued a statement terminating the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START), reported Anadolu. He ignored the rambling of Washington telling a Russian outlet.

He stressed if the US cannot digest the legal objections of Moscow that aren't arbitrary can explain again till they get it. Ryabkov clarified that the Russian federation objects and will not change its stand if the US continues its course.

Indicates the US is intent on its path to antagonize Moscow that will not bring back a rollback of the New START, cited Al Jazeera. It's Washington's move whether to escalate or de-escalate.

He added the treaty, and its text is acceptable though if either France or Britain joins, which is seen as far-fetched, then it would be different. Rejoining the pact is possible with a new set of considerations in play.

One more note added is that Moscow and Beijing are more linked as NATO is pushing the envelope in grabbing global hegemony, noted CNBC.

NATO Seeks Domination To Justify Abandonment

Ryabkov added that the US having different concerns is normal, except the west needs to exert effort to find common ground. For Moscow, it would be balancing interests to keep the agreement going.

The western approach is deplorable, with actions speaking louder than words. Forcibly demanding that the Russian Federation and China, with others, accept unipolarity is unacceptable.

The current relations between Moscow and Beijing is called unique and special, with no other nations with the same international relations. The special relationship is crucial for Moscow compared to the west nitpicking over China's eventual ascension as a nuclear power.

The Russian official said that Moscow still has official channels used when needed. One of these is keeping in touch with US embassies.

Furthermore, he explained how the Russian embassy in the US capital is not always smooth because the Americans are hampering things. He called out the US, trying to cause bumps in the diplomatic mission that he frowned upon.

Saying that Washington is acting like a second-class country, not a superpower, and it is not commensurate to their status.

BRICS Becomes a Bane to the West

Ryabkov spoke about the cooperation of BRICS nations comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, which is becoming an influential bloc. 16 prospective new members will strengthen the global south to the chagrin of the slipping western powers.

Questions about BRICS expanding further, which he answered how it would go down, hinted that the association of like-minded nations of the BRICS will be added soon in other continents.

They stated they are still working on criteria for admitting new members, like the Republic of South Africa entry. It is the most recent addition to the alternative bloc so far. A long line of applicants includes Saudi Arabia and Iran, while the New BRICS Development Bank is a concern for present members as with regional security of the alliance.

Russia clarified that justifying abandonment based on legal reasons is valid to leave the New START Treaty despite US objections.
