The New York Knicks are reportedly discussing a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers to trade Iman Shumpert and Raymond Felton for Darren Collison. The proposed players in the deal could change before Thursday's NBA trade deadline, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reports.
New York has been shopping for an upgrade at point guard. With the trade deadline just over 24 hours away, the Knicks are reportedly eying 26-year-old Collison.
"In proposed deals, the Clippers would send the Knicks a package that includes point guard Darren Collison for Shumpert and point guard Raymond Felton, sources told Yahoo Sports," Wojnarowski wrote on Wednesday. "... The discussions and proposed players are still fluid, league sources said, and a deal isn't close to being reached. Nevertheless, Shumpert is an object of interest for the Clippers and the recent return of All-Star point guard Chris Paul makes Collison more expendable.
Wojnarowski added: "The Clippers would need to add more than Collison to a package to absorb Shumpert and Felton. Other players have been discussed between the two teams to make the salaries match up in a deal, sources said."
Collison, the No. 21 overall pick of the 2009 draft, has played for four teams - New Orleans, Indiana, Dallas and Los Angeles - in his five years as a pro. He's a career 46.3 percent shooter and is averaging 10.1 points and 3.6 assists in 23 minutes per game this season.
Shumpert has been the subject of trade rumors throughout the season. The 23-year-old, known best for his prowess on defense, was most recently linked to a reported three-team between New York, Toronto and Atlanta. He was also linked to trade discussions earlier in the season with Denver.
Felton, who's struggled with injuries this season, isn't the Knicks' long-term answer at point guard.
The NBA trade deadline is on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 3:00 p.m. ET.
