Burger giant McDonald's Inc. is temporarily shutting its U.S. headquarters this week as it gets ready to tell corporate staff about its layoffs as part of a larger business restructure, per reports.

Employees in the United States and several other countries were reportedly instructed to work remotely from Monday until Wednesday so that the company could make personnel considerations online, according to a Reuters report.

The Chicago-based firm stated in the message seen by the WSJ that it will "communicate key decisions" relating to positions and personnel levels throughout the fast-food giant McDonald's "during the week of April 3."

According to the report, McDonald's reportedly instructed its staff to postpone any in-person meetings scheduled for the company's headquarters with suppliers and other third parties.

McDonalds CEO Warned 'Difficult' Decisions Ahead

McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski issued a stern warning to staff in January, saying that "difficult discussions and decisions" were ahead, giving a hint of the upcoming McDonalds layoffs, according to Fox Business.

In a company-wide email, Kempczinski revealed that the firm will be reorganizing its workforce and maybe eliminating certain roles as part of its new business plan, dubbed "Accelerating the Arches 2.0," in an effort to be more productive, creative, and cost-effective.

It is anticipated that the layoffs will be communicated on Wednesday. The fast food chain did not say how many people might lose their jobs as a result of the reorganization of McDonald's.

Aside from McDonald's layoffs, there has been an massive sacking of employees in major companies as businesses struggle to combat the global economic recession and increasing prices, per NDTV. Google, Amazon, and Facebook are just a few of the digital titans that have lately reduced their workforce significantly.
