'Aquaman 2: The Lost Kingdom' has a new release date after Warner Bros. moved the premiere of the DC film to a slightly earlier schedule.
Previously, the 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' was supposed to hit the big screen on the same day as Christmas Day or on December 25, 2023, to be more precise. But this time, fans of the DC hero may now watch the upcoming movie on an earlier date, at least by a few days.
'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' Release Date Has Been Moved
ComicBook.com says the release date of the "Aquaman" sequel has had a couple of changes since last year. The renowned media firm Warner Bros. (WB) initially planned to release the movie on December 16, 2022. But later on, Warner decided to delay it to a much later date, pushing its theater premiere to March 17, 2023.
As fans expected it to arrive this year, WB delayed it again. Instead of 'Aquaman 2,' another DC superhero movie premiered last March, 'Shazam! Fury of the Gods.'
Meanwhile, 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' got a new release date after the Shazam sequel took its spot. Its comeback to the big screen was supposedly on December 25. Yet in another turn of events, WB announced that the second Aquaman film is set to get the shimmer of the spotlight five days earlier. Instead of Christmas Day, it is set to release on December 20.
'The Color Purple' Releases on December 25
Deadline reports that the Broadway musical, produced by entertainment figures such as Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey, 'The Color Purple,' now takes the previous release date of 'Aquaman 2.' Quincy Jones and Scott Sanders also produce the now Christmas Day film.
Before the release date changes, 'The Color Purple' was supposed to hit the theaters on December 20. WB has reportedly decided to move its premier to a slightly later date. It is still being determined why Warner swapped the release date of the two upcoming December movies. The giant studio has yet to explain the reason behind the changes.
Nevertheless, it is good news for DC fans who have long been waiting for the release of the sequel of Aquaman. After all, the first movie of the "King of the Seven Seas" debuted way back in 2018, which, frankly, is roughly five years ago. Time indeed flies so fast these days.
In a few months, the DC Extended Universe film, 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,' is swimming back to the big screen. It hits the theaters on December 20. The film stars Jason Momoa and Amber Heard, directed by James Wan.
