Accusations of sexual assault against actor Armie Hammer are being investigated by the Los Angeles District Attorney's (LADA) Office, according to reports.
On Monday, April 17, Office communications director Tiffiny Blacknell told CNN they are looking into the situation. "I can confirm that the LAPD has presented a case regarding Armie Hammer to the LADA."
Sexual Assault Probe
Hammer has been under investigation for sexual assault since February 2021, when a woman accused him of raping her in 2017. The district attorney's representative would not reveal the complainant's or complainants' identity.
Hammer has denied any misconduct and has not been indicted in the matter.
When asked about the accusation, he responded via his counsel, calling it "outrageous." He claimed that his relationships with the lady and other partners were "completely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance, and mutually participatory."
Who is Effie?
In March 2021, Gloria Allred of Los Angeles brought her client, a 24-year-old woman named Effie, who claimed that Hammer had raped her.
Effie said on Monday that what the actor did to her was traumatic. She expressed displeasure at her ex-partner's refusal to accept responsibility for his actions against her and subsequent recourse to personal attacks. Hammer has no remorse, according to her.
In the statement, Effie also emphasized that she does not believe Hammer has changed at all and that he is still causing harm.
Effie, a European resident, claimed in 2021 that she and Hammer had an intimate connection on and off from 2016 to 2020.
She was 20 years old when she first came across Hammer on Facebook and immediately fell in love with him. She said Hammer would often test her loyalty by pushing her to her limits. Effie added that as time went on, he got more aggressive.
On April 24, 2017, Effie claimed that Hammer assaulted her for more than four hours in Los Angeles. She alleged he beat her feet with a crop and did other violent things to her that she did not authorize. Effie said that she had foot pain for a week after the incident.
In Hammer's Defense
Hammer said in a February interview with Air Mail that he always had permission throughout his sexual interactions. "Every single thing was discussed beforehand. I have never thrust this on someone unexpectedly. Never," he explained.
Hammer said he had a pretty radical lifestyle, which he described in detail to Air Mail.
"I would scoop up these women, bring them into it - into this whirlwind of travel and sex and drugs and big emotions flying around - and then as soon as I was done, I'd just drop them off and move on to the next woman, leaving that woman feeling abandoned or used."
The claims of sexual assault against Hammer have resurfaced in the media with the release of the House of Hammer docuseries on Discovery+.
