Shocking Discovery
In a press statement from the Madison County Sheriff's Office, featured by CNN, a 6-year-old longhorn-cross cow was located lifeless and mutilated on the side of the road by local ranchers on Wednesday, April 19.
A "straight, clean cut, with apparent precision" was performed to take the hide from one side of the cow's mouth, and the tongue was removed "with no blood spill," as explained by the sheriff's office.
While inquiring into the death of the longhorn cross, investigators discovered five more cows in identical conditions. Each cow came from a separate herd and pasture and was discovered in a different spot along the state highway in Brazos and Robertson counties, authorities said.
The external genitalia and anus were taken off of two cows using a circular incision. Similarly to the cuttings around the jaw lines of each cow, the sheriff's office noticed that this circular cut was performed with the same accuracy.
There were no footprints or wheel tracks near any of the cows, and there was no evidence of a struggle or blood splash, officials said. "It was noted there were no signs of struggle, and the grass around the cow was undisturbed. No footprints or tire tracks were noted in the area."
The sheriff's office has issued a plea for information on the mysterious deaths of six cows. Investigators are asking anybody with information about this shocking case to call them at 936-348-2755.
Since there have been several cases like this in the US, the sheriff's office says it is sharing information with other departments.
Similar Nightmares
Recent incidents of animal mutilation reminiscent of those in the 1970s, according to The New York Times, caused widespread panic among ranchers.
In 1975, it was reported that in at least 11 states, including California, Montana, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, farmers had discovered dead animals missing their genital organs and tongues. Nearly 200 cows, a buffalo, a horse, and a goat were all discovered with missing body parts at the time.
The New York Times said that some people believed that satanic cultists were responsible for the murders because they wanted to utilize the organs in sacrifices. In contrast, others thought that UFOs were responsible for the mutilations.
One official reportedly speculated that a helicopter may have been involved in the 1970s mystery since no footprints were ever discovered. Authorities urged the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to investigate the killings, but the case was closed after months of fruitless searching.
Recently in 2019, at least five bulls were discovered mutilated with their tongues gone in eastern Oregon. The police were at a loss to explain the phenomenon.
