Florida Man Shoots at Instacart Delivery Drivers

As per a report by ABC News, two Instacart delivery drivers, 19-year-old Waldes Thomas Jr., and 20-year-old Diamond D'arville, attempted to deliver groceries last Apr. 15, the Davie Police Department says.

However, the delivery riders had trouble looking for the address of their customer. So they tried to reach out to Instacart use as they sought to locate the right house.

Upon doing so, the couple reportedly pulled over at a property in Southwest Ranches, which a Florida man, Antonio Caccavale, owns. When the homeowner saw the vehicle parked on his property, he then told his son to ask the delivery driver to leave.

The police report says that his son asked for his help later on. So Caccavale ended up approaching the delivery vehicle.

NBC Miami reports that the Instacart drivers say that a man approached them, and "he's like, Who are you?" They proceeded to tell him that they were with the online delivery service, initially thinking that this might be their customer.

The police report notes that the homeowner claims that the Instacart drivers drove "erratically," They even ran over boulders, logs, and even a fence on the property. So he says that he feared for his son's safety, prompting him to pull out his gun.

The Instacart drivers recall that they got scared when they saw the man pull out his gun. The couple says, "I had seen him pull out a gun, and that's when I said, 'We got to go, we got to go." They claim that the man shot at their vehicle several times.

The homeowner admitted to the police that he shot several rounds as he aimed at the tires. According to NPR, Caccavale told the police that his goal was to disable the vehicle, which he claims ran over his foot.

Florida Prosecutor Orders Full Investigation

While the police say that "each party appears justified in their actions," a Florida prosecutor wants a full investigation of the "very disturbing" incident involving two Instacart drivers.

The Broward County State Attorney Harold F. Pryor disclosed that his office has already requested a full investigation and legal review from the local police.

He adds that "prosecutors will conduct a thorough review of all of the facts presented, the evidence, and the applicable law." After which, they should decide if they should file any criminal charges.
