Bud Light Sales Drop Following Dylan Mulvaney Campaign Backlash

Conservative organizations and country music artists have called for a Bud Light boycott.

An industry research agency reports that Bud Light sales have suffered a significant decline of 17% following the controversial marketing collaboration with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

According to the most recent sales statistics from NielsenIQ and Bump Williams Consulting, Bud Light sales decreased 21% in volume and 17% in dollars for the week ending April 15, according to the New York Post.

That is much better than the 6% decline in sales dollars and the 11% decline in volume that Bud Light had seen during the week ending April 8 - the seven days that came directly after the contentious Mulvaney campaign was launched on social media on April 1.

Since Dylan Mulvaney, a transgender activist and TikTok celebrity, revealed on April 1 that Bud Light had given her customized cans to mark her first anniversary living as a trans woman, conservative organizations and country music artists have called for a boycott of Bud Light.

The first part of April saw a sharp decline in the number of pubs and restaurants serving Bud Light. Between April 2 and April 15, servers at over 3,000 locations utilizing BeerBoard's network dispensed around 6% less Bud Light than other light lagers, Axios reported.

Distributors Back Anheuser-Busch Amid Bud Light Controversy

Beer wholesalers are sticking with the Bud Light brand and its parent company, Anheuser-Busch, despite the uproar brought on by two Instagram posts that featured transgender social media personality, Dylan Mulvaney.

In a recent meeting with distributors at the National Beer Distributors Association Legislative conference, Anheuser-Busch stressed that the Dylan Mulvaney posts were not an official commercial or campaign and sought to dispel any misconceptions, per CNN.

Anheuser-Busch further emphasized that the can that Dylan Mulvaney received was not for sale to the general public.
