Maybelline’s Collab with Trans Dylan Mulvaney Prompts Boycott on Social Media

After Bud Light beer, a new call for boycott kicks off.

Maybelline's partnership with trans woman Dylan Mulvaney triggers widespread boycott online from conservatives. The #BoycottMaybelline has trended on Twitter following the backlash on the collaboration.

It comes right after a boycott campaign against Bud Light kicked off over a partnership with Mulvaney. The backlash started after the trans TikTok influencer posted two sponsored posts in partnership with the alcoholic beverage.

This time, the make brand, Maybelline, faces the same kind of response.

Maybelline's Collab with Trans Dylan Mulvaney Triggers Boycott

According to CBS News, the transgender influencer Mulvaney, who has over 1.8 million followers on Instagram, is facing another backlash, involving her collaboration with the famous cosmetics brand Maybelline.

The TikTok rose, popularly known for her "girlhood" series, posted a short video on the Chinese-based social network last month. It turns out that the clip was sponsored by the giant makeup brand Maybelline in celebration of her gender transition.

In the video, Mulvaney used various Maybelline products on her face, such as lipstick and eyeshadow, as she promoted its product line.

Fox News reports she had no makeup on during the start of the video. She only applied the different types of cosmetics on her face in the video, showcasing the products of Maybelline. At the end of the video, she capped off her makeover by applying a lip gloss from the brand that sponsored the video.

The caption of the collaboration video revealed that she was getting glammed for her Day 365 show when she shot the TikTok clip.

While the video seeks to promote the brand to her audience, alongside celebrating her "girlhood," conservative viewers had other sentiments. For instance, Fox News notes that an influencer known as Conservative Momma slams the partnership, saying that it was both "offensive" and "degrading" to "real" women. Meanwhile, Liz Churchill, a Canadian conservative, says that the partnership has prompted her to throw away her Maybelline products.

CBS News notes that the parent firm of Maybelline, L'Oreal, has yet to respond to the backlash online.

Besides the makeup brand, conservatives are now targeting the brands, which partnered with the popular TikTok influence. One of the casualties of the widespread backlash is Bud Light. Fox News points out that the sales of the alcoholic beverage brand saw a significant slump of roughly 17% since the conservative boycott started.

Fans Defend Mulvaney Amid Maybelline Boycott Backlash

Despite the backlash by conservatives, the fans and followers of Mulvaney came to her defense.

Page Six reports that some fans of the TikTok star denounced the criticisms. One of the defenders of the Mulvaney says that the sponsored short video did not "harm" "cis women." Others called the anti-trans community targeting her, as "homophobes" and "bigots."

The 26-year-old influencer thanked her fans for their continued support. Mulvaney previously had high-profile collaborations with brands like Nike and Kate Spade.
