A close source with the actress said that Jolie's family saw Asia-America relations as an important matter. The Hollywood star and her children already had close ties to the region for several years, as per People.
Maddox previously studied at South Korea's Yonsei University, which was in Seoul, and his mother, Jolie, visited the country on several occasions for humanitarian and refugee advocacy reasons as well as for her role as an artist in the last two decades.
The blockbuster star was seen wearing a vintage Chanel jacket and a dress that was personally made for her several years ago. Olympic snowboarder Chloe Kim and Chip and Joanna Gaines were among the other state dinner guests.
The last time that Jolie visited South Korea was in 2019 when her son Maddox enrolled at Yonsei University. The year prior, she met with refugees on behalf of the United Nations Refugee Agency.
The event was also filled with various government officials from the United States and South Korea. These include Vice President Kamala Harris, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin III, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, South Korean Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy Lee Chang Yang, and many others, according to the New York Times.

Broadway star Salonga, while being a guest of the state dinner, was also one of the night's entertainers. When she arrived at the White House, she confessed that she was "freaking out" over the entire experience and said that it felt like she was in a "fairy tale."
The event guests will be ushered to the State Dining Room, located at the other end of the State Floor, after dinner. They will be the audience to a performance from Broadway stars Salonga, Norm Lewis, and Jessica Vosk.
