Bud Light allegedly turned off comments on its new video on YouTube following the widespread backlash after partnering with transgender influence Dylan Mulvaney.
The popular American beer brand is accused of making a bold decision amidst criticism from anti-trans folks and right-wingers. They have been vocally against the collaboration of Bud Light and the TikTok influencer Mulvaney. Some of them participated in a widespread boycott campaign.
Bud Light Disables YouTube Comments on New Video
Bud Light is at the center of controversy yet again after uploading a new commercial on YouTube, wherein the comments have been disabled, preventing users from posting their reactions.
The advertisement first saw the light of day at the NFL Draft. But after the sporting event, Bud Light shared the commercial, which features country music, on YouTube too.
The ad shows friends gathering over a Bud Light beer as they listen to country music at a live concert event. The commercial was posted on the Google-owned video-sharing platform three days ago, or on April 28, to be exact. It garnered a whopping 10 million views since it debuted on YouTube. However, it only received more than 200 likes. The dislikes, on the other hand, are not visible to the public eye.
The YouTube post of the 30-second ad no longer shows any comments. Instead, it notes that "comments are turned off."
Google Support says that the owner of the video or YouTube may choose to disable comments on a video. The latter only does so over safety concerns. It is still unclear if Bud Light turned off their latest ad's comments.
Despite that, some critics went on to accuse the American beer brand of "cowardice," as per the Daily Mail Online.
Bud Light - Dylan Mulvaney Backlash
The new commercial for Bud Light comes right after Mulvaney made her social media comeback after the widespread backlash began.
The uproar started after Mulvaney shared a post sponsored by Bud Light, showcasing commemorative cans to celebrate her gender transition to "girlhood."
Kid Rock took to Instagram to show his support for the boycott campaign. He shot a case of Bud Light beer while sporting a MAGA hat.
Sales of Bud Light beer have since dwindled by 17% following the conservative uproar. Not to mention that the stock of its parent firm Anheuser-Busch plummeted as well, as per CBS News.
On the flip side, Bud Light rivals, Coors Lite and Miller Lite, are selling more cans following the boycott campaign by conservatives and other anti-trans folks. Their sales are up by roughly 17%.
On top of that, the top brass of the beverage maker has also taken their leave of absence following the controversial partnership.
