This week's most-read news articles discussed the deposition video in Donald Trump's civil rape lawsuit, the opening of a NATO liaison office in Tokyo in 2024, and PETA's usage of ChatGPT to alter the book of Genesis to promote veganism and animal rights.
In case you missed any of the week's top news, here's a quick recap:
Deposition Video in Donald Trump's Civil Rape Case
E. Jean Carroll's lawyers revealed 48 minutes of trial deposition video that involved former President Donald Trump. Carroll accused Trump of raping her in the 1990s.
The clip has been requested by many media sites.
During the deposition, Carroll, Johnson, Trump, and Ivana were shown a late 1980s picture. CBS News said that Trump had mistaken Carroll for Marla Maples, his second wife, then he was later rectified.
Carroll sued Donald Trump for defamation and violence after Trump said Carroll made up the rape allegations against him. Trump denied Carroll was his "type." Throughout the deposition, he also labeled Carroll "mentally sick."
In response to inquiries about the Access Hollywood tape, Trump calls it "locker room talk" that he and other celebrities can get away with.
In the deposition video, he becomes most furious when he rejects rape and claims his right to defend himself. A CNN article states that he also questions why he cannot retaliate in kind when he is insulted.
NATO's New Asia Office in Japan
Japan is taking steps to strengthen its relationship with North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and plans to create a liaison office in Tokyo that year.
This will be NATO's first permanent presence in Asia. Despite mounting threats to peace and security in the area, it will facilitate consultants between the 31-nation alliance and Japan, as reported by South China Morning Post (SCMP). The outpost will also have connections to other Asia-Pacific countries.
After meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida earlier this year, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg came up with the idea to open the said liaison office in Tokyo.
ChatGPT-Revised Genesis with Vegan Teachings
PETA has used ChatGPT to represent the Book of Genesis in a "vegan" manner, bringing up vegan principles and animal rights.
In a report by Fox News, animal rights activists prefer to refer to animals as "beings" rather than "beasts" or "creatures" and advocate using hemp and bamboo instead of animal skins for clothes.
PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said the Bible has been used to justify injustice throughout history. Therefore, the organization is working on a new translation to make it clear that God does not approve of animal cruelty. The group decided to begin the "vegan" transition with Genesis.
According to PETA's news release, in the altered version of Genesis Chapter 21, Abraham and Sarah, who were originally 100 and 90 years old when they produced Isaac, adopt a dog named Herbie to expand their family.
In Chapter 22, Abraham shows his reverence for God's creation by befriending a lamb instead of sacrificing a ram.
