ChatGPT AI is now on iPhones as OpenAI finally debuts its iOS app for free following the launch of its web version last year.
OpenAI says that the ChatGPT app is rolling out in the United States (US) before dishing out to the rest of the world.
ChatGPT AI iPhone App Rolls Out for Free
As per The Verge, the much-awaited new ChatGPT AI app is free to use for iPhone and iPad users and is now available in the Apple App Store, at least in the US. Open AI vows to expand the rollout of the iOS version to more users in other countries "in the coming weeks."
However, Android users are left wondering when they can get their hands on this game-changing application. OpenAI promises that the Android app will be rolled out "soon."
The AI chatbot, which has since taken the world by storm, debuted last November 2022, garnering over 100 million daily active users after two months. According to Reuters, OpenAI proceeded to introduce a premium subscription, aptly named ChatGPT Plus, which costs $20 a month. It provides paying users priority access to the highly sought-after platform.
Despite the unwavering popularity of ChatGPT, OpenAI never hinted at the idea of launching a mobile app. However, Wired notes that the Apple App Store is home to many apps that use the AI language model, including AI Writer and Genius.
Microsoft Bing is also available, offering users a ChatGPT-powered chatbot. But none of these are the official iOS app of the viral AI service. This time, much to our surprise, the tech giant launched the iOS version of the AI tool.
Here's How ChatGPT on Apple App Store Works
With the cutting-edge app now available for free on iOS devices, users can tap into the power of AI with much convenience. Phone users previously accessed the service using their web browsers, such as Safari and Chrome.
The welcome page of the ChatGPT iPhone app says it syncs the history of your conversations with the chatbot across various devices, including the web version. So if you used it on your phone, you can still access the responses when you switch to your desktop.
The welcome screen for the official app also warns users the AI tool has tendencies to be inaccurate. It further notes that the language mode "may provide inaccurate information about people, places, or facts."
On top of that, OpenAI assures iPhone users that their sensitive information will remain private. Although their AI trainers will review chats within the service for its development, the ChatGPT maker ensures it will be anonymized.
