Steve Goodwin, a 51-year-old bus driver from Holsworthy, Devon in England, struck incredible good fortune on Easter Monday while grocery shopping.

Goodwin, who resides in Leicester, first put the winning ticket in an envelope beneath his pillow after the store told him it was a winner. The BBC reported that he confessed to crying with excitement when his lottery win was confirmed.

Before finishing his shopping at the Co-Op, Steve Goodwin stopped by the nearby kebab restaurant to satisfy his hunger. While his kebab was being prepared, Goodwin decided to stop at the grocery to get bread and other necessities before checking out.

Goodwin bought a scratchcard outside the shop after becoming curious, excitedly scratching away to uncover the numbers. He felt hopeful when the last number, 73, appeared on the scratchcard.

To his surprise, his expectations came true: Goodwin had won £1 million ($1.24 million).

He immediately returned to the store, where the employees verified his prize and urged him to get in touch with The National Lottery.

Feeling a little longer than intended due to his emotions, Goodwin entered the kebab shop to pick up his doner before leaving for home. However, while in the kitchen, he disposed of the kebab because he couldn't concentrate on it, per LAD Bible.

Goodwin contacted his landlord to ask for the use of her landline for a crucial call, realizing the importance of the situation. He called The National Lottery and confirmed his jackpot win.

Lottery Winner Still Wants To Work as Bus Driver

He still plans to keep his work as a bus driver. The lottery winner and his partner, Heidi Hammond, are focused on paying off their bills, planning more holidays, and guaranteeing their retirement with substantial revenue.

Despite his lottery win, the Goodwin went to work the next day for his normal shift traveling between Launceston and Plymouth, per The Sun. He said he could not just leave his job due to the satisfaction of meeting people while appreciating the beauty of the countryside.

And as he drove the bus, Goodwin smiled in appreciation of his "pretty good" life with his lucky jackpot prize.
