Ray Stevenson, an actor renowned for his work in the "RRR" and Marvel movies, died on Sunday at the age of 58.
The news of the actor's passing was announced by Nicki Fioravante, his publicist. Currently, the reason for his passing remains unknown, according to CNN.
Stevenson, a 1964 Lisburn native, started performing after graduating from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He made his cinematic debut in Paul Greengrass' 1998 film "The Theory of Flight" and received fame for his role as a knight of the round table in Antoine Fuqua's 2004 blockbuster "King Arthur." Later, he played the main character in the Marvel movie" Punisher: War Zone."
Standing at 6 feet 4 inches tall, Ray Stevenson often portrayed powerful, warrior-like roles. In an interview, he called himself an "old warrior at heart," per ABC News. He had accumulated over 60 acting credits and gained notoriety for his breakthrough performance as Titus Pullo in the BBC/HBO series "Rome."
After "Punisher: War Zone," Ray Stevenson continued to work with Marvel when he took on the role of Volstagg, a colorful member of the Warriors Three, in the "Thor" movie franchise.
He also played the antagonist Scott Buxton in the 2022 Oscar-winning film "RRR" and appeared in the blockbuster action movies "Divergent" trilogy, "GI Joe: Retaliation," and "The Transporter: Refueled."
Unfinished Projects
Ray also provided voices for characters in the animated television shows "Star Wars Rebels" and "The Clone Wars," playing the role of Gar Saxon. Additionally, he was set to play the antagonist Baylan Skoll in the upcoming live-action Star Wars series "Ahsoka."
The actor was hospitalized in Ischia while filming Cassino on Ischia, according to a report from Coming Soon.
Stevenson is survived by his Italian wife, Elisabetta Caraccia, an anthropologist, and their three children, Sebastiano, Leonardo, and Lodovico.
