LA Dodgers Re-Invites LGBTQ Nun Group to Pride Night
As per CBS News, the LA Dodgers have found themselves at the center of a heated debate after extending an invitation to the LGBTQ nun group Sister of Perpetual Indulgence to Pride Night.
The LA Dodgers initially invited the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a group of trans and queer nuns, to its upcoming June 16 event at the Dodger Stadium. The LGBTQ group, which dates back to 1979, is set to receive its Community Hero Award during the event.
However, the LA Dodgers removed the LGBTQ group from the list of guests after Senator Marco Rubio, a Republican, blasted the baseball team for inviting the group. The Florida senator wrote a letter to Major League Baseball, arguing that the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence mocks Catholics. He also says that the group of trans and queen nuns is spreading "perversion" of the teaching of Jesus Christ.
According to USA Today, the Catholic League president and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bill Donohue also blasted the inclusion of the Sisters from the Pride event. He also wrote a letter to no less than the MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, demanding the removal of the trans and queer nuns.
And as such, the LA baseball team pushed back its invitation to the Sisters. But after facing widespread backlash from the LGBTQ community, which they seek to honor at the event, the Dodgers re-invited and apologized to the group.

LA Dodgers at Pride Night
The CatholicVote President Brian Burch told Fox News that the inclusion of the Sisters to the Pride Night is an "anti-catholic move." The conservative political advocacy group leader further notes that the Sisters dress up as Catholic nuns while blessing sex toys and pole dancing on the cross. He called these moves "blasphemous and sacrilegious.""
Meanwhile, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Doris Benavides says the re-invitation mocks the Catholic faith.
On the other hand, USA Today notes that Sister Rosie Patridge of the LGBTQ group argues that their "ministry is real," promulgating "universal joy." Part of their mission is to use humor to fight "bigotry, complacency, and guilt that chain the human spirit," the organization says.
