Twitter's Head of Trust and Safety, Ella Irwin, says she has resigned from the Elon Musk-led giant social network.
The departure of the moderation boss comes after the outgoing CEO, Musk, announced his successor, Linda Yaccarino, the former NBC Universal advertising chief.
Twitter Trust and Safety Head Ella Irwin Resigns
One of Twitter's key figures, Irwin, who leads the content moderation in the giant social network, confirmed her departure from the tech giant in a report by Reuters.
Irwin recently joined Twitter last June 2022. In November, he took a massive role in the social network as she replaced Yoel Roth, who then resigned as the head of the trust and safety team. As she leads the department, her responsibilities include overseeing the moderation of content in the platform.
Besides confirming her resignation, Irwin has yet to give her comment regarding the development. And as such, it remains to be determined what led her to abandon her key role in the Musk-owned tech firm. Twitter auto-responded to queries about the leadership change with a poop emoji. The press email of the renowned tech company has been sending such replies since March 2023.
The Verge reports Irwin sat as the content moderation boss of Twitter at a time wherein the social network faced a couple of controversies. During her tenure, critics have slammed the platform for its lax moderation of prevalent child exploitation from its users. The Trust and Safety head is known for banning accounts that followed and shared the whereabouts of Musk's private jet.
In the meantime, it remains to be seen who is set to fill the void. With the incoming CEO, Yaccarino, set to replace billionaire entrepreneur, the decision might be hers to fulfill.
Twitter Rejects 'What is a Woman' Film Over Misgendering
According to Tech Crunch, the conservative website Daily Wire reports that Twitter "canceled a deal" with the site to air its firm, 'What is a Woman' for free. The cancellation was due to two counts of "misgendering" as the documentary reportedly attacks transgender women.
Musk responds to the report, clarifying that the cancellation of the deal to air the movie "was a mistake by many people at Twitter." He then assures that the documentary is "definitely allowed" on the platform.
Given that, Daily Wire proceeded to air the "explosive" documentary film free of charge on Twitter.
Despite Musk's remarks, Twitter still limited the reach of the anti-trans documentary. The warning says the "Tweet may violate Twitter's rules against Hateful Conduct."
It is worth noting, though, that the connection between Irwin's resignation and the documentary, which aired on Twitter, is still unclear.
