'Black Mirror' creator Charlie tried using the viral AI chatbot ChatGPT to write an episode script.
But much to his dismay, the results disappointed the creator of the dystopian series on Netflix.
'Black Mirror' Creator Uses ChatGPT AI to Write Episode Script
The generative tool of OpenAI, ChatGPT, has been an instant sensation among internet users. It has amassed millions of monthly users a few months before its launch last November 2022.
Some are impressed with its capabilities to guide content creation and coding. However, critics have raised concerns about the impact of AI on the society.
As per the BBC, a Goldman Sachs study highlights that AI is likely to replace a staggering 300 million full-time jobs. The possible ill effects could impact folks with administrative roles and legal professions. Some artists and writers are also concerned that they might lose their jobs.
But this time, the 'Black Mirror' creator himself sought the help of the viral AI chatbot to write an episode script.
According to a report by DeCrypt, Brooker recently attempted to push the boundaries of artificial intelligence by enlisting the help of ChatGPT, to develop a script for a 'Black Mirror' episode.
The Netflix series creator told Empire Magazine in an interview that he "toyed around with ChatGPT a bit." To be precise, he prompted the AI tool to generate a script for his award-winning dystopian show.
However, the outcome was not exactly what he had hoped for.
Deadline reports Brooker asked the AI to "generate Black Mirror episodes,' but instead of doing so, he says, it just combined summaries of its older episodes, making it appears like it wrote a script on its own.
The show creator narrates, "It comes up with something that, at first glance, reads plausibly, but on second glance, is sh*t." He realized that nothing original actually came up from the AI-generated episode. Instead, it was a mere mash-up of previously released titles.
