Sony's VR Headset For PS4 Rumored To Make Its Debut At GDC 2014: Is Virtual Reality The Future Of Gaming?

Sony may be set to launch their rumored PS4 virtual reality headset at GDC 2014.

TechRadar reports the tech conference will be held in San Francisco, Calif. starting March 17. Sony is reportedly "taking its time" tweaking the headset for the big reveal this spring. An insider told the tech site they were "impressed" by the quality of Sony's Oculus Rift competitor.

"The quality and resolution are really, really good," the source told TechRadar. "People will definitely be impressed with what Sony's built."

The tech company is not taking the Oculus Rift approach to unveiling their VR headset, which was to reveal the product throughout its development stages.

"Sony has deliberately taken its time to tweak and polish the headset before revealing it," the source added.

According to TechRadar, Sony plans to unveil games for their VR headset during the E3 Expo 2014. Sony has not confirmed rumors of a big VR headset reveal.

Sony's big VR headset reveal could be due to the success of the PS4. Sony recently announced the company has surpassed the 5 million unit mark as of Feb. 8.

"I am thrilled that so many customers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as the best place to play throughout and beyond the holiday season," Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., said in a statement.

"We are delighted that according to the NPD Group's latest data, PS4 was January's top-selling console in the United States," House continued. "The PS4 system's momentum just keeps growing stronger, and we are extremely grateful for the continued passion and support of PlayStation® fans. February 22 sees the launch of PS4 in Japan, and I'm looking forward to Japanese fans sharing the excitement of the deep social capabilities and entertainment experiences only possible on PS4."
