The original Smosh co-founders-Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla-are finally back after confirming that they purchased the internet comedy brand.
"WE BOUGHT SMOSH," said the comedy duo via the official Smosh Facebook page. The announcement quickly gained traction. The post was able to generate over 21,000 likes, 1,300 comments, and 4,200 shares.
Many of the fans of Hecox and Padilla also shared their excitement in the comment section.
"Wtf I literally have been watching old smosh videos to bring back the nostalgic feeling, and now this, I'm so happy!!!" said one of their fans.
Original Smosh Co-Founders are Back!
According to Variety's latest report, Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla purchased the majority of the ownership stake in Smosh from Rhett & Link's Mythical Entertainment.
The comedy duo explained that they've been thinking about bringing the old Smosh back for some time now.
"Ian and I started hanging out a ton, and we realized the sketches that we'd made weren't just great because they were a product of the times," said Anthony.
He added that he wasn't blinded by nostalgia whenever he went back to their old videos to have a laugh.
Instead, he believes that the original Smosh content is a reflection of the "magic" they felt when he and Ian were still making comedy skits for the brand.
Because of this, they decided to re-acquire Smosh. Although they weren't sure if they could really purchase the internet comedy brand, they still took the risk...And it paid off.
