As per a report by Deadline, the leaked audio, run by CNN on live TV, suggests that Trump showed the "highly confidential" documents, which he admitted in the recording as "secret information," to other people.

The former President shared a discussion with the Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman, General Mark Milley, about a sensitive document.

The federal indictment of Trump, which accuses him of mishandling classified documents, cited some parts of the conversations in the audio.

The audio reportedly recorded the conversation between Trump and the writers of Mark Meadows's autobiography. Meadows is the final chief of staff of the ex-President.

In the conversation, Trump says, "Well, with Milley -- uh, let me see that, I'll show you an example."

Trump goes on, "He said that I wanted to attack Iran. Isn't that amazing? I have a big pile of papers, this thing just came up. Look. This was him. They presented me this -- this is off the record, but -- they presented me this. This was him. This was the Defense Department and him. We looked at some -- this was him. This [was not] done by me, this was him. All sorts of stuff -- pages long, look."

Furthermore, the former President reportedly told them, "Wait a minute, let's see here. I just found, isn't that amazing?"

He then blurted out, "This totally wins my case, you know. Except it is, like, highly confidential. Secret. This is secret information. Look, look at this. This was done by the military and given to me. As president, I could have declassified, but now I [cannot]."

The documents that Trump talked about in the recording were reportedly plans from the Pentagon to attack Iran.

According to The New York Times, a publisher and writer of the Mark Meadows memoir recorded the conversation, which dates back to July 2021. CNN's broadcast of the leaked audio is presumably the first time the public has heard it.

The New York Times reports that Trump denied in an interview with Fox News that he shared the "highly sensitive" documents during his meeting with the Mark Meadows biography writer at his golf club in Bedminster.

The former President told Fox News host Bret Baier that he was discussing "newspaper stories, magazine stories, and articles."

As ABC News reports, Trump faces 37 counts over alleged mishandling of classified documents after he stepped down from the White House.
