Some EasyJet passengers were kicked out from their flight on Wednesday, July 5.
The affected travelers were already inside an aircraft. They were supposed to fly from Lanzarote's Arrecife Airport to John Lennon Airport in Liverpool.
However, they were asked to get off the airplane due to a very disappointing reason.
EasyJet Passengers Forcibly Removed From Flight!
According to LADBIBLE, EasyJet asked 19 passengers off the plane because it was too heavy to fly.
Because of this, many passengers recorded the incident and shared their videos on the internet.
In the footage, the pilot can be heard explaining that the aircraft can't take off because of the huge weight, as well as the weather conditions.
"Thank you for getting here today. Because there are so many of you it's a pretty heavy aircraft," said the pilot.
The flight operator added that the very short runway, combined with the aircraft's heavy weight, made it impossible for the plane to take off.
The pilot continued explaining the situation to the passengers. After that, the airman said that the only solution for the flight to continue was to lessen its cargo.
The pilot specifically asked for 20 passengers who could voluntarily leave their flight.
The airplane's crew was able to find 19 travelers who could give up their flight.
Were Affected Passengers Compensated?
When airlines kick off passengers due to overbooking or other reasons, they are required to provide compensation.
Since the EasyJet pilot said that volunteers would receive an incentive of up to $545 (€500)-it can be concluded that the affected travelers were compensated.
Via The Daily Mail UK, an EasyJet spokesperson confirmed that the 19 passengers on the flight EZY3364 really volunteered to stay behind.
"This is a routine operational decision in these circumstances and weight restrictions are in place for all airlines for safety reasons," added the EasyJet official.
The spokesperson further explained that whenever they ask passengers to leave their flights due to weight limit problems, the airline offers free later flights and compensations in line with their regulations.
