Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky has taken a firm stance against former United States (US) President Donald Trump's audacious claim that he could have single-handedly ended the Ukraine-Russia war within 24 hours.
Russian President Vladimir Putin launched an unprovoked invasion of Ukraine last February 2022.
Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky Mocks Donald Trump's Claim
Zelensky wasted no time dismissing Trump's bold assertion, claiming he could have put an end to the war with Russia in merely a day.
According to Newsweek, the Ukraine President has finally spoken up on Trump's claim during his recent interview on ABC News on July 9, Sunday. During his appearance on 'This Week' on the news channel, he pointed out that the former US President "already" had the chance to end the war during his presidency, which spanned between 2017 and 2021.
Zelensky, in his translated comments, says, "It seems to me that the sole desire to bring the war to an end is beautiful." Yet, the Ukrainian leader told ABC News anchor Martha Raddatz that the "desire should be based on some real-life experience."
The Ukraine President reiterated, "It looks as if Donald Trump had already these 24 hours once in his time." He also noted that Ukraine was already at war with Russia during Trump's US presidency, but not in a full-scale conflict. However, Zelensky assumes that the ex-POTUS "must have had some other priorities."
On top of that, the Ukrainian leader argued that US President Joe Biden and Trump could end the war in a shorter span of less than a day. He says they only had to force Ukraine to surrender their territory to Moscow. Yet, he notes that the conflicted country's leadership "would not agree" to such a move.
Zelensky blurts out, "Biden could have brought it to an end even in five minutes, but we would not agree."
Donald Trump Boasts He Could End Russia-Ukraine War in 'One Day'
As per The Daily Beast, Trump has repeatedly expressed his claims to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine if ever re-elected to his seat in the White House.
The former US President blamed President Biden for Russia's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine by Russian President Vladimir Putin last February 2022. He claims that his relationship with Putin could easily end the conflict in "one day," if only he was in charge.
As the Rolling Stone reports, the MAGA leader previously said, "I will have that war settled in one day, 24 hours." Trump also boasted that his "personality kept us out of war," adding that the invasion was "horrible."
