The Monstars might have to face a new NBA MVP in a rumored "Space Jam 2."
According to Deadline, LeBron James is set to star alongside Bugs Bunny in a sequel to the 1996 animated/live-action flick. James would be following the footsteps of NBA legend Michael Jordan, who starred in the original "Space Jam" film. Fellow NBA players Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Danny Ainge, Tyron "Muggsy" Bogues, Vlade Divac, Cedric Ceballos, Larry Johnson, Shawn Bradley and Paul West also appeared in the film.
"Charlie Ebersol, who already has a good relationship with the NFL through his NFL Characters Unite series on USA Network, is about ready to do the same with the NBA," Deadline reports. "He has been brought on to the produce the picture through his production company, The Company, from a script by his brother Willie Ebersol. The latter won an Emmy for the London Olympics. This is his first screenplay."
"Space Jam 2 marks Charlie Ebersol's first major film deal as he is best known for unscripted TV such as The Moment, about second chances for people who are given the opportunity to reclaim their career dreams after their lives have taken an unexpected turn," Deadline reports.
The original "Space Jam" reportedly grossed about $230 million worldwide.
Before you get too excited about a "Space Jam 2", multiple reports are claiming the Deadline report is false and there are no plans for a sequel.
"Well it was fun while it lasted. LeBron sources refute Deadline report, there's no Space Jam 2 or Warner Bros. project in works," ESPN's Brian Windhorst tweeted.
However, James does have plans of making his big screen debut alongside comedian Kevin Hart. According to Deadline, production for the untitled basketball comedy staring the NBA player is slated to begin summer of 2014.
