According to USA Today's latest report, storm warnings were sent to millions of residents in New England and Canada on Friday, September 15.

This is because Hurricane Lee is now heading towards these regions as a Category 1 hurricane. NHC officials said that the storm will have maximum sustained winds of 85 mph.

Based on NHC's forecast, Hurricane Lee's center will approach the coast of New England, as well as Atlantic Canada on Sept. 15 and Sept. 16.

After that, the tropical cyclone is expected to turn towards the north-northeast and northeast going to Atlantic Canada.

"Lee is forecast to become post-tropical and begin weakening by Saturday, but it is still expected to be a large and dangerous storm when it reaches eastern New England and Atlantic Canada," said David Parkinson, the senior weather and climate producer of CBS News.

Meanwhile, weather forecasters also warned residents in the coastal areas from New York's Long Island to the U.S.-Canada border.

They said that Cape Cod, Boston Harbor, as well as Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, could experience a storm surge of between 1 to 3 feet.

This could happen if Hurricane Lee's storm surge peaks at the same time as high tides.

Although Hurricane Lee is expected to be a Category 1 hurricane, this storm can still bring very dangerous winds that can cause serious damage.

This is why it is important to ensure that your house is already prepared before the cyclone arrives. If you are currently in the mentioned places above, here's how you can prepare for Hurricane Lee:

  • Make sure that your house's windows and doors are covered properly. You can use nail pieces of plywood and storm shutters to protect your window.
  • Expect that you have to turn off your power supply in case of downed power lines or serious floods.
  • Try clearing your yard, especially grills, propane tanks, and other things that can explode if blown off by the storm.
  • Make sure that you have enough clean, drinking water. This will allow you to stay hydrated even when you lose your water supply.
