San Francisco McDonald's faces a lawsuit after a woman was severely burned because of a scalding coffee.

The question is, is this legal action another money-making lawsuit? Here are the major details you need to know.

According to SFGate's latest report, Mable Childress filed a lawsuit in the San Francisco Court on Sept. 14. The plaintiff explained that she purchased a cup of coffee in the drive-thru of the McDonald's branch at 1100 Fillmore St. in June.

But she was surprised that the coffee cup lid wasn't secure, causing the cup to open. Because of this, the scalding coffee spilled onto her body.

She had third-degree burns on her groin, abdomen, and legs, as reported by Delish. Her lawsuit also stated that the woman continued to experience pain and emotional distress because of the incident. Aside from this, Mable also claims that employees at McDonald's just ignored her despite her call for help.

"She was standing there for quite some time, around 20 to 25 minutes, asking for a manager," said Mable's lawyer, Dylan Hackett.

"They didn't give her the time of day. ... Nobody helped her whatsoever. She had to get to the hospital herself," he added.

The attorney added that the coffee that burned Childress was hotter than 190 degrees. Based on these details, the lawsuit filed by Mable is not a money-making legal action. However, she still asks for millions of dollars from the American fast-food chain. The San Francisco McDonald's branch still hasn't commented on Mable's legal action.

McDonald's a Target of Lawsuits

Lawsuits usually target McDonald's. Most complaints against the fast-food chain are injuries caused by its meals or drinks. Before Mable's lawsuit, another legal action was filed a few months ago. This involved a young girl in Florida who was burned by a chicken nugget.

The kid's family initially sued McDonald's for around $15 million. But, they were only awarded $800,000 for the damages and inconvenience. Since the 1990s, McDonald's has been at the center of lawsuits. And the fast-food chain will still be in this situation for the next couple of years.
