Some U.S. Republicans claim that China is a bigger threat compared to Russia. Because of this, they believe that Taiwan should receive more military aid instead of giving billions of dollars to Ukraine.

Their warning comes as the Biden Admin officials as both countries are fighting against the invasions of Russia and China.

Is China Bigger Threat Than Russia? US Republicans Say Yes

One of the U.S. Republicans claiming that China is a far bigger threat than Russia is Rep. Mike Collins. He even voted against additional military aid to Ukraine.

Instead, he claims that the Biden Admistration should focus on assisting Taiwan. Collins and other Republican officials consider Ukraine and Taiwan as effective rivals for the limited U.S. military assistance.

But, unlike Republicans who say China is a more serious enemy than Russia, many of Taiwan's supporters believe that assisting Ukraine is as important as helping the self-governed island.

"Ukraine's survival is Taiwan's survival. Ukraine's success is Taiwan's success," said Hsiao Bi-Khim, Taiwan's diplomat in the United States, via Time Magazine.

Meanwhile, some experts said that ever since the U.S. decided to provide military aid to Ukraine, many weapons manufacturers have been able to boost their production. They added that this would also benefit Taiwan in case of a serious clash with the Chinese military.

Although Taiwan wants the U.S. government to provide assistance to Ukraine, the country is cautious when it comes to getting involved in debates regarding funding the Ukraine military.

In July, the Pew Research Center released a study revealing that many Americans consider China as the greatest threat to the United States.

Based on the organization's findings, around 50% of U.S. residents believe that China poses the greatest threat. Meanwhile, 17% of them say Russia is a bigger enemy.

The remaining surveyees believe that the greatest threat to the U.S. is North Korea and the United States itself. Aside from that, the Pew study also analyzed what Americans consider the greatest threat to the national security and economy of the U.S.

When it comes to China, U.S. residents consider the Asian country as the greatest threat to the American economy (78%: a great deal, 20%: a fair amount).

On the other hand, participants believe that Russia is the greatest threat to U.S. national security (66%: a great deal, 31%: a fair amount).
