The Israel Defense Force updated the number of hostages that were taken by Hamas to 199.

According to Agence France Presse, the number was updated on Monday (October 16) from the previous figure of 155.

The US State Department confirmed on Sunday (October 15) that 30 US citizens have been killed in the fighting and 13 others unaccounted for, according to The Hill.

"We have updated the families of 199 hostages," IDF spokesperson RAdm. Daniel Hagari told a media briefing.

The hostages were a mix of Israeli civilians, foreigners, and revelers of a Supernova music festival the night before the Hamas attack.

IDF: We'll Bring the Hostages Back

Hagari said the military has some information on the whereabouts of hostages being held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip and they were making "valiant efforts" to locate and rescue the hostages, The Times of Israel reported.

"The efforts on the hostages are a top national priority," he added. "The army and Israel are working around the clock to bring them back."

As of Monday, almost 6,000 people have been killed on both sides.
