Shani Louk, a German-Israeli woman believed to be missing from a music festival near the Gaza border on October 7, was confirmed dead on that same day after Israeli emergency services recovered what was said to be part of her skull.
"It is with great sadness that we announce the death of my sister, Shani Nicole Z.L. [may her memory be a blessing], who was on October 7, 2023, at the party massacre in Re'im," Louk's sister, Adi, confirmed in a post on Instagram.
Their mother, Ricarda, also told German broadcaster RTL/ntv she received the news of her daughter's death, saying that at least her death was quick.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry also said they were "devastated" to confirm Louk's death, while its German counterpart did not make any official confirmation.
While on an official visit to Africa, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Monday (October 30) that Louk's death showed what he called the barbarism of Hamas and the need to hold the Palestinian militant group to account.
"For me, this news is terrible," he said. "This shows all the barbarism that lies behind Hamas."

Louk was last seen alive attending the Supernova music festival before Hamas launched its massive attack on civilians.
In the immediate aftermath of the attacks, pictures and videos shared online showed a young woman who was believed to be Shani stripped naked and lying face down at the back of a pickup truck driven by militants. At the time, it was unclear from the footage whether or not she was alive.
It was previously reported that Louk was in critical condition at a Gaza hospital.
New information from Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Monday (October 30) revealed that Louk was possibly shot in the head and partially beheaded.
"This means that these barbaric, sadistic animals [referring to Hamas] simply chopped off her head as they attacked, tortured, and killed Israelis," he added. "What we saw on the Gaza-Israel border goes far beyond a pogrom. We saw a slaughterhouse."
The rest of Louk's body has yet to be found.
