David Fincher is reportedly in talks to direct the late Steve Jobs' biopic for Sony, The Hollywood Reporter reports.
Fincher would be teaming up with writer Aaron Sorkin, who he has previously worked with on the "Social Network" production. "The Social Network" follows the story of Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg's rising empire.
"Fincher is in early talks to helm the untitled film based on Walter Isaacson's best-selling biography of the Apple co-founder," sources told The Hollywood Reporter. "If a deal comes together, the film would reunite the director with Oscar-winning Social Network writer Aaron Sorkin, who recently finished the adaptation, and Social Network producer Scott Rudin. Mark Gordon and Guymon Casady also are producing."
Variety also claims sources close to production confirmed Fincher is being considered to direct the film.
"David Fincher is in early talks to direct the untitled drama, written by Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin and produced by Scott Rudin," Variety reports. "The film is based on the Walter Isaacson biography "Steve Jobs," to which Sony acquired the rights following the Apple mogul's death in 2011. Sorkin finished the script earlier this year."
However, Deadline reports the rumors about Fincher landing directorial job are preemptive. Sony reportedly has yet to begin negotiations with Fincher, let alone have a formal meeting, according to Deadline's sources.
"Fincher hasn't even had a meeting on the project yet, but he certainly has a close relationship with producer Scott Rudin from The Social Network," Deadline reports. "...At this point he read the script and they will have a conversation, and this is as far as this has gone - no negotiations at this point. But there is a rush right now to publish tips from tracking boards that make it difficult to not be compelled to run every single rumor."
