The hostage situation in Hamburg Airport this Sunday (November 5) ended after 18 hours of negotiations with a 35-year-old man of Turkish descent who drove his vehicle through the gates of the airport while taking his four-year-old daughter hostage.
The man was subsequently arrested while the girl was not harmed.
German police added that the man surrendered and was arrested "without resistance."
What Happened?
It was previously reported that the man allegedly had child custody issues with the girl's mother.
There was no indication that other people could be at risk of being harmed as all airport passengers and staff have been evacuated, police told reporters.
During the standoff, the man shot into the air twice and threw Molotov cocktails from the car.
It was unclear if the man had explosives, the BBC reported.
Hamburg police representative Sandra Levgruen told local media that the man did not agree with some decisions made by German authorities in relation to the custody agreement and wanted to travel to Turkey with the child.
"He speaks about his life being a heap of shards," she said.
