Google’s First Developer Conference For Project Ara Modular Phone Scheduled For April

Google announced the first developer conference for its most-anticipated Project Ara modular phone prototype. It will be held at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California, in April.

Google first revealed its plans for Project Ara modular phone tech in October last year and the web giant is now bringing the project to the market through a developer conference. Enthusiasts will build an Ara module to fit the project's obligations.

The announcement was made on Google+ page of Google ATAP, Wednesday, and showed the first photos of the project. The first Project Ara conference will take place at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California, April 15-16. There will be a limited number of developers attending the conference in person and for most of the audience Google will set up a live web stream and interactive Q&A session.

As for the event's proceedings, Google said, "the Developers' Conference will consist of a detailed walk-through of existing and planned features of the Ara platform, a briefing and community feedback sessions on the alpha MDK, and an announcement of a series of prize challenges for module developers."

Google's Project Ara is an open platform allowing any number of people to join and share their thoughts and ideas for the development of modular smartphones. Google is planning to conduct three Ara Developers' Conference meetings throughout 2014.

The success of the project will change the way people use smartphones. Google will offer customizable options like upgrading camera, battery and speaker. The company might set up a module store, much like its Google Play Store, for upgradeable modules for the phone.

The Project Ara was previously under Motorola's banner, but following the sale of the company, Google Advance Technology and Project group will oversee the proceedings.
