British woman convicted of fiance's murder after deadly "game of chicken."

British police said in a news release that a woman has been convicted of murder for the killing of her fiance after she allegedly mowed him down with a car and dragged him 500 feet in a deadly "game of chicken."

The suspect, 23-year-old Alice Wood, supposedly ran over her fiance, 24-year-old Ryan Watson, as witnesses watched the horrific scene. Cheshire Police said that the incident occurred after the couple argued while attending a charity party in May 2022.

At the time, it was believed that Wood accused Watson of flirting with another woman while he was at the party they attended. In a statement, Detective Inspector Nigel Parr said that Wood used her car as a weapon while under the influence of alcohol to drive into her fiance deliberately.

Parr noted that the suspect continued to drive even after she had knocked Watson down with her vehicle. As per CBS News, the detective inspector argued that Wood knew what she had done but has since refused to take accountability for her actions.

The suspect has denied the accusations against her and said that Watson's death had been a "tragic accident." Surveillance footage that police released showed Wood repeatedly driving the car at her fiance until he was caught underneath the hood of the vehicle.

The party that the couple attended was on May 6, 2022, and they were captured on video talking and drinking alcohol. The British woman had driven her fiance's car home from the party at around 11:00 p.m. that evening.

After Wood got behind the wheel of her car, a Ford Fiesta, law enforcement personnel reported that witnesses heard "shouting, doors slamming, and a car engine revving." Video footage showed Wood's car approaching Watson twice until he was dragged underneath the vehicle.

Mowing Down the Victim

The guilty verdict against Wood comes after a three-week trial at Chester Crown Court in Cheshire. The suspect, a university student, was said to have asked someone to "Please phone an ambulance, I think I've run over my boyfriend," according to the New York Post.

Following the incident, paramedics who arrived at the scene after being called pronounced Watson dead on the spot. When law enforcement officers later arrested Wood, she said, "It's fine, I deserve it."

Watson's grieving family issued a statement where they expressed their gratitude that justice had been served. They added that they were "proud" of all the victim had accomplished in his 24 years.

Watson's mother, 44-year-old Lisa, read out a statement after the verdict was handed to Wood, where she said that she was living in a nightmare. She noted that her son had such a big personality, describing him as a bubbly, fun-loving, caring person with a heart of gold.

She continued to say that she could not possibly imagine how scared her son was shortly before his death. She said that the one that Watson trusted the most was the person who took his life in such a violent way, according to Yahoo News.
