Recently, many experts thought that Putin would no longer have any competitors since those who opposed them either left the country or were in prison.

But, there are still some Russians who are brave enough to try and compete against Vladimir in the upcoming Russian presidential election.

Unfortunately, it looks like the latest potential presidential rival could be disqualified. Here are the latest details you need to know.

Vladimir Putin's Presidential Rival Could Be Disqualified

According to The Guardian's latest report, dead souls were found among the 100,000 signatures of support in Boris Nadezhdin's paperwork. This was confirmed by Russia's elections commission.

For those who don't know who Boris Nadezhdin is, he is the sole anti-war candidate in the 2024 Russian presidential election. Because of this, many Russians who want peace are rooting for him.

But, the dead soul signatures that Russia found on his paperwork could lead to a disqualification. Once this happens, then Vladimir Putin will have no rival in the upcoming presidential election.

To clarify things, Nadezhdin hasn't been barred from the presidential election yet. But, the central elections commission briefing on Friday, Feb. 2, indicated that he could be removed in the run-up to the vote.

Because of this, he has been summoned to the Russian elections commission for a review of the dead soul signatures on his paperwork, which could be just errors.

In December 2023, a Russian presidential hopeful was already disqualified from running in the election. This was Yekaterina Duntsova, a former Russian TV journalist.

Just like Boris Nadezhdin, Duntsova is also against war, which is why she promised that she will end the conflict with Ukraine if she wins the Russian presidential election in 2024.

She was disqualified because the Russian elections commission claimed that she had some mistakes in her candidacy application, as reported by NBC News.

But, Ella Pamfilova, the commission head, comforted the presidential hopeful; offering words of consolation.

"You are a young woman, you have everything ahead of you. Any minus can always be turned into a plus. Any experience is still an experience," said Pamfilova.
