Virtual Reality: Mark Zuckerberg Tries Out Apple's Vision Pro, Says Meta Quest 3 Is 'Better Product'

Mark Zuckerberg touts Meta Quest 3 as the "better product" after trying out Apple's Vision Pro.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg tried out Apple's Vision Pro virtual reality headset and said that he was surprised to find out that his company's Meta Quest 3 is the "better product."

In a video posted on Instagram on Tuesday, Zuckerberg ripped into Apple's new product, which currently costs $3,500, saying that Meta Quest 3 is not only cheaper, costing only $500, but also just overall better.

He said that he initially expected Quest to be the better value for money for customers because it is seven times less expensive. However, he added that after trying out Apple's Vision Pro, he discovered that his company's VR headset is better for "the vast majority of things that people used mixed reality for."

Zuckerberg and the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, have something of a feud going back several years now. The two were never going to become evangelists for each other's virtual reality headsets.

In the Meta CEO's video, he ticked off a list of features that he believed were better on Meta Quest 3. These include brighter screen, wider field of vision, more immersive content, no wires, no "blur," and lighter weight, according to Business Insider.

Since its release, the Vision Pro's usability and comfort have received criticism, with some users starting to return their devices to get their money back. Zuckerberg made sure to point out in his review of Apple's product that the Meta Quest 3 is "a lot more comfortable."

He noted that the company designed it so that it weighs 120 grams or less, which makes a drastic difference when worn on a person's face. The Meta CEO did allow himself to give the Vision Pro two compliments.

The first is that its eye tracking is "really nice," adding that a similar level had been included in earlier versions of Meta Quest 3 and will be put back in future models. Zuckerberg also noted that Apple's product has a "higher resolution" than his company's virtual reality headset.

Meta Quest 3 the "Better Product"

Zuckerberg said that he was surprised by the tradeoff that Apple made in order to get the fanciest display possible into its virtual reality headset. The Meta CEO also said that his company's product has better "immersive" content than the Vision Pro, according to The Verge.

At the end of his video, Zuckerberg expressed his gratitude to his team which was responsible for building VR headsets for a very long time. The situation comes as Meta has a massive head start and is expected to be the uncontested leader in headset sales for quite some time.

The Meta Quest 3 was first launched in October last year and is equipped with two 2K LCD panels compared to the Vision Pro's 4K microLED displays. When it comes to hardware, the former has Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset, 6GB of RAM, and Touch Plus controllers.

So far, Meta has produced several virtual reality headsets, including the Oculus Quest, the Oculus Quest 2, the Quest 3, and the Quest Pro. On the other hand, Apple plans to continue producing headsets, and rumors suggest that the tech giant's next-generation version will be much more affordable, said MacRumors.
