Andrew Tate, an American-British social media personality and former kickboxer, was reportedly taken into custody in Romania late on Monday, March 11.
A representative from his team said that the British warrant that led to his 24-hour detention would be decided upon by the court of appeal in Bucharest about his extradition.
Arrested in Romania on Warrant From UK
In a report by The Guardian, the publicists working for Tate and his brother Tristan said that the two "categorically" disputed the accusations of sexual violence that allegedly occurred between 2012 and 2015. Westminster Magistrates Court approved the warrant.
Tate and his brother are now residing in Romania as they await trial on allegations of rape, human trafficking, and conspiring to organize an illegal group that engages in sexual exploitation of women. All accusations, however, are denied by them.
On many occasions, Tate has said that the Romanian prosecutors are trying to silence him and that they do not have any evidence against him.
'Unsettling Circumstances'
A court representative said that on Tuesday, March 12, the appeals court in Bucharest will decide whether to execute the arrest warrant.
"Andrew and Tristan Tate unequivocally deny all allegations and decry what they perceive as an exploitative use of the legal system. They are fully committed to challenging these accusations with unwavering determination and resolve. The brothers emphasise their belief in a fair and impartial legal process, despite the unsettling circumstances surrounding their case."
Tate has built up quite the online fan base. Over the years, his hate speech and sexist ideas have gotten him removed from a number of popular platforms.
