Preliminary autopsy results indicate that there was no foul play involved in the death of Mizzou student Riley Strain, whose body was discovered last Friday, eight miles away from where he was last seen alive in Nashville.
"Detective attended the autopsy examination," Metro Nashville Police Department spokesperson Kris Mumford told the Tennessean. "Continues to appear accidental."
Strain was visiting Nashville with other members of his fraternity when he was kicked out of Luke's 32 Bridge bar on March 8.
Surveillance footage showed the 22-year-old stumbling as he walked toward the Cumberland River. A married couple living in a homeless encampment near the river believe they spotted Strain and described the student as "very, very, very intoxicated."
In the ensuing days, Strain's family descended on Nashville to assist in the search efforts. After his body was pulled from the Cumberland River, the family held a press conference thanking community members who assisted in the search.
"I just ask that you mommas out there hug your babies tight tonight, please," said mother Michelle Whiteid, according to the Tennessean. "Please for me. Hug your babies tight tonight."
The final results of the autopsy are pending - coroners still need completed toxicology reports to make a determination.
