Filipino actress and YouTuber Andi Eigenmann revealed in her latest video that her mother, the late Cannes Film Festival awardee Jaclyn Jose, was her biggest fan.
Local media coverage addressed when Jose died of a heart attack last month after she stopped responding to messages and calls from her relatives. She was 60.
In her latest video on the channel Happy Islanders, Eigenmann said she was touched to know that one of her latest videos was the last Jose watched on YouTube before she died.
"My mother passed away and things have not been easy. But she has always been the biggest Happy Islanders fan," she said. "In fact, when I was able to check her phone, we saw [on] her YouTube [account that] the last video she watched was our [latest] Happy Islanders video."
Eigenmann left behind the glitz and glamor of Manila for the island of Siargao in the Mindanao province of Surigao del Norte, one of the Philippines' iconic surfing destinations, to live with her husband Philmar Alipayo and their two children.
She explained that she transitioned from the local showbiz scene to YouTube to ensure that her mother would still be able to keep tabs on her and her family.
"The whole purpose of me creating a vlog was because—being away from my family—having Happy Islanders was the best way for me to keep her updated with my life here," she added while wiping her tears. She's been my biggest fan of everything that I do, and she loved watching Happy Islanders and our videos all the time."
Eigenmann: We'll Make the Most Out of Our Time Together
Eigenmann accompanied her mother at Cannes in 2016 when Jose accepted her Best Actress award for her role in the Brillante Mendoza crime flick Ma' Rosa.
Jose's final acting role was that of a jail warden in the ABS-CBN series "Batang Quiapo" ("Quiapo Kid") - a TV adaptation of the Fernando Poe Jr. film of the same name directed and starred by Filipino celebrity Coco Martin.
She stated that she would continue to make more videos as much as possible and "spending time with [her] family," "focusing on the good things," and "making the most" of their time together despite losing her mother.
"Losing my mom at such an unexpected time is [a] proof that you don't know what tomorrow brings," she said.
The rest of Eigenmann's video featured clips of her and her family in Siargao, including her younger brother, Gwen Guck, who was based in the US for university studies.
"It's sad that he didn't get to come with mom, but we are going to make the most out of our time together nonetheless," she explained about her brother.
Eigenmann and Alipayo started uploading Happy Islanders vlogs on YouTube on Dec. 31, 2019, and the channel currently has 2.68 million subscribers.
