Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene seized on the 4.8-magnitude earthquake that shook much of the Northeast on Friday and the solar eclipse arriving Monday to warn Americans to "repent."
"God is sending America strong signs to tell us to repent. Earthquakes and eclipses and many more things to come. I pray that our country listens," she posted on her social media page on X Friday, adding an emoji of praying hands.
Greene, a Republican who has previously blamed California wildfires on Jewish space lasers and embraced other outlandish conspiracy theories, connected the natural phenomena to a heavenly cause just hours after the earthquake was reported in New Jersey, about 45 miles west of New York City, and was felt as far away as Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.
The solar eclipse will be viewable on Monday to a large swath of the country from Texas to Maine.
Readers added context to her X posting.
"Earthquakes happen all the time, all around the world, we can follow them realtime using USGS resources" the added context said in part.
"Eclipses are not random, they follow strict mathematical rules and can be predicted centuries before they happen. NASA has a site listing eclipses until the year 3000," the comments continued.
Other users on the platform were more blunt.
"Bless your heart, Marjorie. Eclipses have been predetermined since the dawn of creation," Christopher Hale wrote.
"Did we just slide backward to the Dark Ages?" asked user Keith Higgins on X.
