Prominent people in Nevada are reacting after a well-kown Las Vegas attorney and his wife were shot to death Monday by the woman's former father-in-law during a deposition for a child custody case at a law office.
Attorney Dennis Prince was representing his wife, Ashley Prince, in a child custody dispute involving the two children she shared with her ex-husband, Dylan Houston, at the Prince Law Group's office, Monday morning, KTNV-TV reported, citing several unnamed law enforcement sources familiar with the case.
Dylan's father, attorney Joe Houston, was representing his son.
In the middle of a deposition, the elder Houston shot and killed the Princes before turning the gun on himself.
"With profound sadness, Prince Law Group would like to thank everyone who has reached out to us with heartfelt messages of concern and sympathy over the tragic violence that occurred this morning in our offices," the firm said in a Facebook post. "We ask that you please respect the privacy of the families involved."
"We are deeply saddened by the devastating news of the passing of Dennis Prince, a distinguished attorney who was regarded as one of the finest in our state," Prince's friend Tom Letizia, a political consultant, told the station. "Dennis was not only a close friend of mine but also a respected figure within our legal community, whose absence has left us all in mourning. The news of this tragedy has profoundly shocked me and our entire community."
Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford reacted in a post on X.
"I'm devastated. Dennis Prince was not only a brilliant attorney, but he was also my former law partner and my friend. I can't believe he's gone," he said.
"I'm extremely saddened by his and Ashley's death, and my heart goes out to their families, especially their children."
St. Sen. Jacky Rosen wrote on X, "I'm heartbroken by the news that Las Vegas attorney Dennis Prince & his wife Ashley are the victims of today's shooting in Summerlin. Dennis was a fixture of the Las Vegas community & my thoughts are with their loved ones."
