An Arkansas teenager is under arrest for allegedly killing a student attending a post-prom party.

Arkansas State Police announced the arrest of Donterious Stephens, 19, of Helena, in connection with the shooting. The victim was identified as Lorenzo Harrison III, 18, a senior at the school.

The party was attended by students after Helena-West Helena's Central High School prom at located at Ater Warehouse in West Helena.

The shooting took place around 1 a.m. on Sunday. The circumstances are under investigation.

The school district posted a message on its Facebook page stating: "Our hearts ache for the tragic loss of our beloved 12th-grade student at Central High School, and our deepest sympathies extend to his grieving family, classmates, friends, and our entire school community impacted by this senseless act of violence."

Tony Roach, principal of Central High School, sent a message to the school community in response to the killing.

"The loss of a young life is always difficult to comprehend, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the student during this difficult time," Roach wrote.

Stephens is a previous graduate, according to police. He will be charged with first-degree murder and gun possession.

The Arkansas State Crime Lab will conduct an autopsy will determine the official cause and manner of Harrison's death.

Administrators planned to have counselors in the school on Monday.

"During this time of immense sorrow, let us lean on one another for strength and solace. Together, may we honor his memory and work towards healing the wounds inflicted by this tragedy," the district stated.
