The social media platform owned by Elon Musk has suspended the account of the grandson of former South African President Nelson Mandela.

It was unclear why Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela, also known as Mandla Mandela, was blocked. His account now shows a message reading: "X suspends accounts that violate the Rules."

Mandela just left Friday on a Gaza "Freedom Flotilla" to deliver aid to the war-torn region, and has given several interviews in support of Palestinians.

Mandela has also quoted his grandfather on the issue. Former South African President Nelson Mandela often spoke out for Palestinian self-determination after 27 years in prison for fighting apartheid in his country.

"He regarded the Palestinian struggle as the greatest moral issue of our time," his grandson said in a speech on Friday. "He made a commitment to the Palestinian people by saying that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinian people."

Mandia Mandela characterized the situation between Israelis and Palestinians as "apartheid."

Neither Musk, who was born in South Africa, nor X immediately replied to a request for comment.
