Three bodies discovered in a well in Mexico have been positively identified as two Australian and an American surfer believed killed by thieves for their truck tires, said Baja California state prosecutors.

They were shot to death during a surfing trip to the Baja peninsula in Mexico. 

The well was located some four miles (6 km) from the scene of the surfers' deaths. The well also held a fourth body that had been there for a longer period of time.

Three suspects are being detained in the case.

The victims — American Jack Carter Rhoad and Australian siblings Jake and Callum Robinson — were identified by relatives. identities were confirmed by relatives.. 

Before the surfers vanished last weekend, the three men were camping and surfing on a stretch of coast south of Ensenada, sharing photos of waves and isolated beaches on social media.
