A tornado ripped through a Michigan FedEx facility.

Two tornadoes touched down in Portage, Michigan on Tuesday, leaving a trail of destruction, including tearing the roof off a FedEx building.

50 employees were trapped in the building, according to MLive.com. Crews needed to remove live wires to get them out safely.

The storms swept through Kalamazoo County in the early evening.

The National Weather Service issued a warning when the second tornado touched down: "New tornado reported on the ground near Portage. TAKE COVER NOW!!"

City officials say there was significant damage to residential and commercial buildings and trees down across many roads in the city.

There were also several reports of gas leaks.

No serious injuries were reported.

Mayor Patricia M. Randall issued an emergency declaration due to the damage. Non-emergency city offices were closed on Wednesday and people were asked to stay off the roads.

"Residents should continue to shelter in place and check on their neighbors," the city said on social media.

The Salvation Army set up two shelters for people who couldn't stay in their homes due to damage.

More than 20,000 people lost their power. It could be Wednesday night before everyone gets power restored.

There were other possible tornadoes reported in Michigan on Tuesday including ones in Dowagiac and Nottawa.
