The city of Kansas City posted but later deleted a social media comment about the controversial Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker.
The since-deleted post on the city's official X account stated, "Just a reminder that Harrison Butker lives in the City of Lee's Summit."
Lee's Summit is a suburb about 20 minutes outside of Kansas City.
The official account then posted a follow-up message stating, " We aplogies(sic) for our previous tweet. It was shared in error."
The apology tweet was ridiculed in its responses.
"LOL no it wasn't and I want the name of the employee that you fired for tweeting it," one person replied.
"This was no error. Fire the person in charge of this account IMMEDIATELY," another said.
"We apologies," someone else responded along with a story about declining reading levels in Kansas City.
Butker has been receiving blowback for comments he made during a commencement address at a private Catholic college last weekend.
Butker addressed the female graduates, telling them their "most important title" should be that of "homemaker."
"I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolic lies told to you," Butker said. "Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. I can tell you that my beautiful wife Isabelle would be the first to say her life truly started when she started living her vocation as a wife and as a mother."
Butker told male graduates to "be unapologetic in your masculinity," and to "fight against the cultural emasculation of men."
He also made comments alluding to gay pride being "sinful."
Women responded to the address with outrage on social media. One person posted parts of his speech images from the dystopian TV show "The Handmaid's Tale."
HNGN previously reported that Butker's mother is an accomplished medical physicist.
Elizabeth Keller Butker is a published author who has worked for decades at Emory University's Department of Radiation Oncology.
The NFL has condemned Butker's comments.
"Harrison Butker gave a speech in his personal capacity," Jonathan Beane, the NFL's senior vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer, told HNGN in an emailed statement on Thursday. "His views are not those of the NFL as an organization. The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger."
Benedictine is a private Catholic liberal arts college in Atchison, Kansas.
Butker received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from the school at the commencement.
