A convicted Brooklyn fraudster, known as the "bling bishop" for his flashy lifestyle and was the victimized in a robbery mid-sermon that was captured on a live stream, has been jailed ahead of his sentencing for violating the terms of his pre-sentencing bond.
Lamor Whitehead was remanded to federal custody on Monday by Judge Lorna G. Schofield, AM New York reported.
Prosecutors asked the judge to send the bishop behind bars for allegedly flashing sealed court documents in a video he posted on social media.
The judge reportedly decided that Whitehead had violated his bail by showing the documents.
"While we respect the court's authority, we firmly believe in Bishop Whitehead's innocence and are committed to pursuing justice on his behalf," Whitehead's lawyer Dawn Florio told the paper.
The bishop was convicted in March for swindling a parishioner at his church out of her $90,000 life savings.
Whitehead was the victim of a high-profile armed robbery at the Leaders of Tomorrow International Ministries in July 2022.
Three masked assailants held Whitehead, his wife and their child at gunpoint during a live-streamed sermon.
They got away with approximately $1 million worth of jewelry, including a $75,000 Rolex watch, a $75,000 Cavalier watch and a $25,000 ruby and diamond ring.
Whitehead has a checkered past including a conviction for first-degree robbery involving former NBA player Chris Childs.
