At least three people were injured Thursday night after multiple shots were fired during a high school graduation ceremony in Oakland, California, as graduates and family members fled in panic, authorities reported.
Oakland police Lt. Robert Trevino told reporters at the scene that the shooting at Skyline High School was sparked by "some kind of dispute," and involved multiple suspects.
"We do know there were multiple suspects," Trevino said. "We're trying to identify exactly how many."
Officers arrived to find two adults — a man and a woman — with gunshot injuries. They were listed in stable condition after being rushed to a local hospital. A third person from the scene arrived later at a hospital for treatment of unknown injuries, according to the Oakland Fire Department.
The school was later determined to be "safe and clear," according to Trevino.
A witness on the scene described the chaos inside the school as the shots rang out."You start seeing the people running," the unidentified witness told ABC News."I started ducking down and I started ducking down ... you're just trying to figure out if it's some pop, like celebration, or what."

Trevino said Oakland police are "pretty well-trained at critical incidents" so were able to get panicked graduates and guests out of the building and away from the scene safely and quickly.
An investigation is continuing.
