An Egyptian soldier was reportedly killed during a gunfight with Israeli forces near Gaza's border city of Rafah on Monday.
Israeli military sources said Egyptian soldiers fired at Israeli troops who shot back, the Jerusalem Post reported, citing the Israeli newspaper Maariv.
The Israel Defense Forces said that the "shooting incident" was under investigation and that "dialogue is taking place with the Egyptian side," according to the Times of Israel.
The deadly clash erupted one day after an Israeli airstrike killed 45 Palestinian civilians in a camp for displaced people in Rafah.
An Israeli government spokesperson said that the strike targeted two senior Hamas leaders and that a '"somehow a fire broke out and sadly took the lives of others."
This is a developing story.
