Police in Houston who were looking for a missing woman found her in the jaws of an alligator.
Authorities said the victim's husband reported her missing early Tuesday morning. He told officers that she had gone for a walk around 7:30 p.m. Monday and never returned home.
Houston police divers found the woman's remains in the jaws of an alligator in Clear Lake near her home, KHOU-TV reported.
A police sergeant shot and killed the alligator "to prevent it from doing more damage to the remains."
Police are waiting for autopsy results to determine her cause of death and whether it was the alligator who killed her.
The victim was a woman in her 60s. Her name hasn't been released.
Maggie Berger, a spokesperson for the Law Enforcement Division with Texas Parks and Wildlife told KTRK-TV, "Our thoughts are with the woman's family during this time."
"They live down there. We see 8 feet, 10 feet babies. I know which banks to stay away from and where they like to lay in the sun," Angela Derous told the station. "That's the first time I've heard of that happening down here. It's a little scary."
No other information was immediately available.
