A Texas man is facing murder charges in connection with the brutal killing of a Black transgender woman.

Houston Police say that Walter Daniel Saravia Palacious, 35, was arrested on Tuesday.

He is accused of gunning down Diamond Cameron Brigman, 36, in cold blood back in March.

Houston homicide detectives say that they found Brigman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds outside a home.

Houston Fire Department paramedics declared her dead at the scene.

"Diamond was described by her friend as 'larger than life' and said that 'she had a lot of energy and was always smiling and personable,'" the Human Rights Campaign reported. "Black trans women deserve to grow old."

Witnesses told police that a white 2017 Chevrolet Malibu LT had stopped near Brigman, who was standing on the side of the road.

A man got out of the front passenger side and fired 15 shots, according to KHOU-11.

He then took off with someone else driving the car. Police later found the vehicle believed to have been used in the killing.

They eventually tied Saravia Palacios to the shooting and arrested him.

It was unclear if he had a lawyer who could speak on his behalf.

The Human Rights Campaign says Texas has the highest number of anti-trans murders in the nation. Brigman was the 35th trans or gender-expansive victim since it began tracking fatal violence in 2013.
